Case of Spina Bifida in a Young Man, &c., &c.

Whilst proceeding in Medical charge of the Band of Her Majesty s 7th Hussars from Sealkote to Lahore, on 23rd February last, a case was brought to me in camp for treatment. A young man, aged 21, caste Rajpoot, size 5 feet 2 inches, pale and emaciated, was born with a tumour, the size of a pigeon's cfrrr projecting from the upper part of the sacral region. He states that this tumour gradually increased from infancy, and that it suddenly broke, discharging an enormous quantity of pale fluid. When this occurred he was obliged to keep to his charpoy' but subsequently he had walked well. In ten days the tumour had resumed its original size ; pain had not been felt for two days, while the cyst or bag was discharging, but the patient used to be sick at stomach and had giddiness in the head while it was re-filling. On examination a tumour was found depending from the lumbar and sacral regions, of the size of two closed hands ? very painful and tender to touch, and with the skin over its' surface of a dark hue.
